If this test still does not work after a reboot, try repairing or re-installing Microsoft Office CPL file on your system.
Close all control panel applets and the control panel itself if it is open. Open the system registry. Right click the Cpls folder and select Export. Specify the desktop or another location to back the key up to. Within the Cpls key locate the mlcfg Copy the entry as it is to your clipboard.
CPL but it may vary slightly from system to system. Paste your clipboard entry into the Run window. Now slowly start removing the last few characters of the path. Ensure that an autocomplete entry remains indicating that the file at this path actually exists. CPL in the location the registry has. If this fails to find the file, see [Troubleshooting]. Alternatively, you can always paste the path copied from the registry into a file explorer window, remove the MLCFG CPL portion of the path and hit enter.
This should take you to the folder that contains the file. CPL, see [Troubleshooting]. Open the registry. Select the entire contents of the path and copy it to notepad. Now change the path to NULL. I ended up calling Dell, because I was also unable to get Office to activate. They were telling me that Office has to be tied to the Microsoft account that I used to order the system with Long story short, after about 4 hours, they got Office reinstalled and activated.
However, I still don't have the control panel applet. What I did notice is that all of the Office executables for Outlook, Word, etc. I have never seen this before. Is this something new with Office, or, is this a Dell thing now? For us to have a better understanding about your concern, we would like to know if you received any error message when trying to configure your Outlook Also, are you have the same issue with the missing Mail icon in your Control Panel?
I have the exact same issue. It's like Dell's shipping half-baked Office installs with these latest systems. Outlook just gets some bogus "can't find that user" type error when launching and entering verified-correct e-mail credentials for Office Can't set up the mail account manually because there's no mail icon in Control Panel. Looks like Dell just screwed up all things Office. I'm going to just try to log in directly to Office. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.
